Essay 4 Reflection

It was easy to locate connections across the texts we read, but it’s not like I just magically thought of them. Finding connections required me to sit down and reflect, and think about specific moments and events throughout the plots we read to find these connections. So actually I wouldn’t say it was a piece of cake, but then again, it wasn’t absolutely impossible. It just required deep stages of critical thinking to identify these specific moments. I wasn’t sure if connections meant similarities. I just took it to mean similarities. And these similarities are what I based the cohesiveness of my essay on, sticking to one theme of coming of age throughout all the selected texts I chose and how I would elaborate on my personal connection.

I feel well about Essay 4. This is because I started the writing process on time. Procrastinating can be   a huge barrier when it comes to assignments. When I wait to complete an assignment and it’s near the due date, I tend not to produce as high quality of work. But then again it can be helpful to have that pressure to get it done. My friend recommended me this book on procrastination. I’m sorry I can’t recall the name of it, but the basic jist is that you should start a task in 5 seconds because that’s how long it takes the brain to enter procrastination mode and begins to relax itself if the anxiety we get from waiting until the last minute.

I feel well about the class as well. I have learned a lot and I have grown as a writer. I am almost done with my portfolio. I have completed my 2 page cover letter, the revisions for essays 1 and 2, and now I am just waiting to hear back from essay 3 so I can submit my work. I feel bad for being late today. This is because my previous class is Statistics. It is very content heavy, and the professor is the kind of professor who will go over the scheduled class time to make sure we understand the msterial, so I apologize for running in late today. I will write my course evaluations next week including the one for this course.

Movie Prompt Reflection

I think Beneatha represents a character who is universally connected to humanity. I feel that a lot of humans in general experience some of the things she does. For example, young women aspire to be in a specific career, yet they are shattered by problems like gender discrimination in the family as well as a lack of financial resources. This is something generally universal across humanity because society has mostly treated women as inferior. Also, this is universal to humanity because most people struggle financially as the extremely affluent only make up 1% of the national wealth. Similarly, a lot of people like Beneatha are probably shunned for being a realist - for being someone who doesn’t necessarily believe in God or connect to the supernatural. Many people are kicked out of their homes for not sharing the same religious views. In some ways, atheism is inevitable in our modern world because of our focus on rationality and logos and simply rejecting the notion of a God. ...
